[ authorial presence on the web ]
One of the noticeable
differences between printed literature and electronic text in regard to the JFK
assassination is the immense difference between the authority and authorial
presence each presents. Published contributions to the discipline of history
are from academics, scholars and journalists. These professional and commercial
offerings present a collective closed text. Authorship on the web whilst
singular in relation to an individual site becomes part of the collective
voice. Kennedy assassination sites take on many forms. Noticeably as a
collection, they go beyond traditional, book design principles. There are
tabloid style sites (such as Probe:
The Truth Is Out There), interactive newspapers (JFK Assassination: Special Report), critical
collection (The Academic JFK Assassination Site),
and metaphorical libraries. The collection of sites can be likened
to a community connected by a mutual interest in the JFK assassination.
