The Three sites illustrated are the most comprehensive of the site offered
solely in the search Manifest Destiny, with URL's that worked consistantly
Fort Scott National Historic Site
http://www.nps.gov/fosc/mandest.htm
The Fort Scott site provides again a narritive history
of Fort Scott. Accessing the Manifest Destiny section of the site leads
us to a narrative with some hyperlinks to maps and paintings that are used
to illustrate the narrative of the Forts involvement in the Frontier. Of
benefit is the Related site linking and Site history links that enable
the reader to leave the site however, there is no review of the sites which
makes them as useful as any gateway, unless you know what to look for they
just are a compilation of information
Potawatomi Web
http://www.ku.edu/~kansite/pbp/homepage.html#news
One of the mmany native American sites on the web, although
the only one that came up in the search on Manifest Destiny and would probably
be of more use to the Anthropologist and Sociologist than the Historian,
it enforces what many of these sites do and that is the preservation of
culture and cultural pride. However it does contain all the treaties made
between the Potawatomi and the United States which is a valuable source.
As with Fort Scott though all links out are gateways to other sites that
if the reader doesn't have some context can make accessing these site very
confusing
US Mexican War
http://www.pbs.org/Kera/usmexicanwar/maneframe.html
One of PBS. orgs history sites and the one that the search for Manifest Destiny, and definantly the most useful site that presented itself in due to the fact that it provide a timeline that links to other information that the site provides. A Disucssion board that is veted to so does have some historical license. It also provides a comprehensive bibliography that relates to the documentary of the same titel as the site. Of all the sites it is the most complex and attempts to develop a relationship in the non-linear environment. however unfortunately it provides for no linking to other sources via hypetext which make the site very limited in its ability to provide complexity outside its own environment
